Ball of Yarn Cookie

On cakecentral.com, there is a forum section that is all about cookies. Every month, the cookie club chooses a different theme and the members design new cookies and share new techniques with each other. The theme this month was "Inspirational Women." I decided to make a cookie that reminded me of my grandma.

These are strawberry cake mix cookies. Grandma always has a great garden and let us pick strawberries from it. She also taught us how to make strawberry jam. She taught me how to knit and crochet, so I decided to decorate the cookie to look like a ball of yarn.

I placed a flat circle of fondant on top of the cookie, then I used a sharp knife to carve the lines into the circle of fondant. Then I just rolled a small piece of fondant into a thin "snake" and coiled it on top to look like the end of the yarn.

Rhonda's Ultimate Marshmallow Fondant

  1. These are so cool, and they do remind me of Grandma! I bet she'd be happy if you sent her a batch(0:..or just a picture!

  2. That's a great idea! I'm not sure if the cake mix cookies would hold up during shipment, but maybe I can try another type of cookie with the same decoration. Hmmm...
