My First Guest Post!

My friend Cat asked me to do a guest post on her blog http://nutsinanutshell.blogspot.com/. I was so excited and happy to do it! She said I could write about anything I wanted, so I chose to write about a brownie...on a paper plate...Here's a link to my post:

There's Nothing Better than a Brownie on a Paper Plate

Did you read it? Sweet! Now, since we're already on the subject of goody baking...

I thought we could use a blast from Halloween goodies past today:

Mummy Cookie

I had a little fondant left over from the cake pops, so when I made cookies today, I decided to experiment. Here's my little mummy.

I rolled the white fondant really thin and cut it into strips. Then, I just started laying them onto the frosted cookie. They eyes are green balls of fondant, and the black is royal icing.

Happy Halloween!

Creepy Eyeball Cake Pops

I volunteered to make some baked goods for my son's school this week, so I decided to make some cake pops.

I used fondant for the blue and green irises, and I used royal icing for the red veins and the pupils.

I found some cute boxes to package them. I used a small Styrofoam round inside the box to help the cake pops stand up.

Spooky Spiderweb Cookies

I made these same cookies last year, but I thought I'd add purple to the mix this time.

Here's the post from last year with instructions on how to make the web:

Spiderweb Cookies

These cookies are fun to make.

1. Outline a circle with royal (or glace) icing.
2. Fill in the circle with a bright fun color, using more royal icing (but thinned a little with water so it flows easily).
3. Create a spiral on top using a small writing tip and black icing.
4. Working quickly (before the icing starts to set), drag a small knife or toothpick from the center of the icing to the edges, creating a spooky web.

Have fun!

These were decorated spice cake mix cookies. They're very easy to make.

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies

I decided to try using fondant to ice some sugar cookies again. These were for a Halloween party we went to over the weekend. I used the recipe for Rhonda's Ultimate Marshmallow Fondant again. I also used a recipe I found a few years ago for the sugar cookies. I'll post that later.

As soon as the cookies came out of the oven, I transferred them to a cooling rack. While they were still warm, I placed the circles of orange fondant on top. The fondant warmed up just enough to adhere to the cookies. Then, I used a fork to create the curved indentations on the fondant and the back of a knife to make the straight line in the middle.

Lots of cookies!
